LETTERS FROM THE PAST

This blog is to honor those who have come before us. These are family letters that I have had for years and wanted to be able to share them with family. It's an interesting way of knowing how life was in the past.

Myron F Taylor with 3 of his buddies in 1952. Over the last 20 years I've been working on our family letters. Letters that have been passed down. Including letters from my parents to my great-grandmother. Every letter was saved by my great grandmother and grandmother. I hope someday to either print them or give them to a museum. I am copying the letters–not being able to photocopy all of them. Each letter is in script. I know today very few can read them. I hope you enjoy them.

1963 - Letter from Martha and Melvin Chrisler

Natoma Kans

Dec. -20-63

Dear Mable & Archie

Was so glad to get your letter and pretty Christmas card.

Well we are having some winter weather here for the last couple of weeks ten below zero part of the time and 3 or 4 inches of snow last week and it has been snowing a little today.

Yes Rosa was home for a couple of weeks and we had a wonderful visit she came on her daddys birthday and surprised us all. Jack Powell brought her out from hays to Dons and Don brought Leona and Rosa down here. Don brought a big angle food cake in and set it on the table and he said Dad here is your birthday cake and he says come on down I got you a nice birthday present then he went out the car and brought Rosa and Leona in the house and was we ever surprised but it sure was good to see her.

Mable thanks a million of Shirley, Myrons and familys pictures they’re pictures are sure good thanks again for the picture.

How is Archie feeling now better we hope.

We haven’t seen Wilda and Ray Simpson for quite a while.

Mable do you still work part time yet at the same place.

Leona said she had a nice visit with you when you folks were here last time. I’ll bet you folks will be glad when Shirley and her family comes home. Rosa said her Husband came home one day from work and he asked how she would like to have a Christmas present present and have it early she said she told him she didn’t know and she said why.

And he said how would you like to go home for a visit and go early and your Daddys birthday and she said all right and she said she sure had to hurry and do a lot of work to get ready to come home.

Mable do you remember Ruth and Leonard James Leonard passed away Friday at the medical center hospital a K.C. he was operated on for heart truble they will bring the body to Natoma Sunday eve and the funeral will be Monday at 2 oclock. He will be buried in the cemetary at Natomoa. Ruth is the dauter of Mable and John Powell.

Melvin can’t see very well any more. And he feels so bad about it and so do I. And he isen’t very well either. Well I guess I had better close hoping to hear from you soon.

Love to both of you, Martha and Melvin
