Remembering - Mable Taylor

 My brother sent out this photo. It's from when we lived in Japan. I thought it was fun to post because her Anniversary was coming up. January 31, 1931 she married Myron F. Taylor, Sr. He had passed away a year or two before this photo. 

I remember that coat and her scarf that held her hair down.

Any Idea?

 Today I was going through photos of my mother as well as a lot of the family. I would like to post a couple, but I found people are taking my photos and posting them as theirs. I had to mark them private because the information is always incorrect. 

Here is one I found. That's my mother in the front. I don't know who the children behind her are. I believe this was in OR before they moved to Seattle. If you might know who they are, I would love to find out. There is nothing written on the back. 

I thought I lost this photo when I gave it to the museum to post next to dads name on the plaque. They lost the photo anyway. When I found this, I was thrilled. I may send it to them through the email, so I can keep the original photo. 

This is some of the stuff I have on my family tree. I found a ton more letters to post here, so I have a lot of work to do, to get those letters posted. 

In the meantime, I thought you might like to see some photos from over 50 years ago.

Saturday Afternoon

23,November 1963

Dearest Mom and Dad,

It is pouring down rain here and it really seems fitting that it should with President Kennedy laying in the White House. Isn’t it a waiste of a brilliant mind? I don’t think I have ever seen any place close down so tightly as this base. Within an hour after his death all work was stopped every business on the post was quietly closed. What a terrific shock.

Well, we are all fine. I can’t seem to get on the ball and get a thing done. Think I’ll sit and put quilt blocks together. There is nothing on the TV and Radio but the news so I can guess that I will sit and watch it.

I feel so sorry for his wife and children to be left so suddenly and so terribly. She has had more than her share of grief in the past couple of months.

I received a letter from Park Wineland this morning in the mail. I’ll copy it here in this letter so you can have a copy of it. 

Here goes –

November 20, 1963

Fort Meade, Md.

Dear folks;

Your letter of the 31^st, help out, but in order to connect them up we’ll have to have as many generations back as you can give, and then maybe I will be able to connect them up.

Of course I was under the impression that your folks might be related to the fellow John who married the granddaughter of St. Clair. His children were:

George Washington Wineland

John Albert

David Baldwin

Daniel St. Clair

Mary Elizabeth

Robert Graham

Margaret Balfear

Henry Clay

Winfield Scott

Ellen Douglas

Now John was the grandson of Christopher who came to this country. He has one son Michael, and Michael had two sons Christopher, John. C b 1799 J-b 1818

There were some other Winelands in that area too, that had moved there from eastern Penna.

Christopher, only had two sons.

Hardy Hill B 1835

Christopher B 1839

John B 1810

He had 10 children 6 boys and 4 girls

The first born 1833 and the last 1854

One went to Detroit, Mich. Where he is buried

One to Wishconsin

One to Galleon Ohio

One went to Elkhart Indiana

On went to Dallis Texas

 

However in that same area were at least tow or three other Weinland’s who moved west from Lancaster County Pa.

So if we can get together the data at present, as well as the data going back as far as you can maybe we can find the answer.

Also, there is a Wineland, mentioned in “Mark Twayne” Book on the Mississippi and he is buried in Ill. At Hamburg and his decedents live in that area.

I did receive a letter from H.L. Wineland 12362 Loralein Ave. Garden Grove California, It contained a german copy of a will signed by John? Wineland dated 1786 The copy came from Germany.

So if you can gather together the data, as far back as possible, may be I’ll be able to connect them up.

Note: James E Wineland 30 McKinley Ave West Caldwell, New Jersey wrote to me about a letter I sent to his brother in 1954 in Indiana.

Now, if you can send me a couple of the Winelands in Kansas addresses I’ll sit down and write some letters off and try and get some more information. I’ll get a letter off to Aunt Laura Wineland and maybe she can find out some dates and some information of part of the family. This is really getting interesting. Myron is writing everything down in a book for us to keep ourselves. I haven’t heard a thing from Archie yet but a m sure we will this next couple of weeks.

Took Pat into the Doctors on Thursday afternoon and found he had a good cold and two ear infections. They gave us four kinds of medicine and he just loves it. He is doing real well and doesn’t get into being crabby. He sure wants his mommy to sit and rock him and so we do. He is getting real well about letting others too.

Chris got his report card last week. He got nine A’s, nine B’s and 3 C’s. We were sure thrilled with it. He seems to be better adjusted in a school of mostly Service childen.

Well I can’t seem to think of anything more to say so will close for now.

Dear Lynn and Pat:

It was so good to hear from you and receive your Christmas Greetings. That is one of the blessing of Christmas I believe, as it does bring friends and relatives closer together May the good Lord watch over you and keep you in good health Take time too, to have good times together and enjoy life to its fullest. This is a fine time now with your plans for a family. May God bless you.

We are both fine and expecting to have a good trip to Mexico Jan 21-Feb 3. It will soon be here so we are already looking forward to it. Yes, I wish you were going too. Maybe someday that will be a thing for which to make plans. Anyway, since we are both getting old, we don’t have much time any more so have to make hay while the sun shines!!!!!!

Milton is losing eye sight but will have a cataract operation in the near future that will hopefully bring back his vision. In the mean time, I do all the car driving and reading for him I try to help him keep up his courage and not get dispondant.  He will be 88 in Jan I just had my 78^th birthday. We are blessed, believe me, as our health is good for being this old.

Well, dear ones, we appreciate your invitation to come your way some time and stay over with you. Yes, I think we can make it but not right away. We will wait for some better weather, perhaps in the spring. But will let you know. Do take care now and remember, take GOOD CARE OF THAT LITTLE ONE IN YOUR TUMMY. HE-SHE IS IN YOUR CARE and needs the best you can give. Our love as always.

Jul 1959 - Letter to Dad from Uncle Bob

5 Jul ‘59

Dear Myron,

I forgot about that 4 cent stamp on my last letter o’well now you know how long it takes in cas anyone wants to find out.

I’m glad you answered my letter when you did. I’ve written about 4 times more letters than I have received. I hadn’t had a letter in over a week so it sure helped. I’ve got 3 more weeks to go then I get out of school. I hope that I’ll see you in Europe, but I imagine I’ll and up in some hole in Korea. One thing about my job is regardless of where the army is, they always need someone to make out their papers, so I could end up any where from Seattle to England. I’ll know in about 2 weeks I hop.

You mentioned you might end up getting a Mercedes. I wrote Bill & told him I’d go in half way if he wanted to bring back a Mercedes. I haven’t got an answer yet so I don’t know what he thinks of the idea. I hope he’ll have rank enough to bring one home if he wants too.

You asked me how I made out with Sharon when I was home. Well we’re still on writing terms but there is still nothing serious yet. Not will I’m in the service. If she finds someone else before I get out then I guess I didn’t want her bad enough. O’well it’ll all come out in the end.

I did go to a Christian Science Church today to find out about Sharon’s religious beliefs so you can see I’ve still got her on my mind. I also wanted to find out if I’d run into any conflick over religion. If I don’t run into any thing contrary to my beliefs in the studying tht I plan to do on the subject, she’ll never know about the studying. The only conflick I’ll run into so far is a real nice gal in the church. (l’st to vive)(French)

In my school now I’m typing about 65 words a minute and I’m a little below overage on my tests on army morning reports, files, and all subjects studied. I’m about 3^rd in class on my typing ability. There is 35 students I was told when I first got her, if I could type over 45 wpm I’d go overseas. I hope this is still true.

Well I’ve got KP tomorrow so I’d better get a few things done. I hope your enjoying Germany I’m sure that I would if I was there. O well who knows, I may be.

Letter to Chris Taylor 1960's.

This is a letter to my brother from my father - Myron Taylor to Chris Taylor. I posted this because these are the letters I remember as a child receiving from dad. He would always have his drawings on the letters. Mine would have rabbits. Love those letters we would get when he was stationed away from us.

Memories - 1960's

Most of my letters I post on here are from my family. I have letters that I wrote to my grandmother that will probably be thrown out before I look at them - or my children will have that choice.

In visiting with family - my cousin Susan had this photo. My grandmother Taylor would let us go out in public dressed like this. Yes, that is me on the left. Susan is on the right. I played the roll really well!  lol

My grandmother, Mabel Hellem Taylor, had clothes in her closet for us kids to dress up. We wore her shoes, hats, (this is small compared to the hats we wore), dresses, sashes, etc. We picked from a closet FULL of clothes, shoes, purses, and accessories. Yes, we even got to wear the jewelry she had waiting for her granddaughters. I really looked forward to coming home from overseas to be with her and her closet!

More letters are coming, I'm learning how to use my phone to take photos of the letters, as you can see from my earlier posts. I will try to keep posting them when I can get this to work again. lol

Again, I hope you enjoy the letters I've posted so far. More will be coming. I have only skimmed the surface of what I have. It's a treasure of information, and it's a treasure to be able to know what my ancestors thought and did.

Letter to Chris Taylor from Archie Wineland

I found this letter with other family letters. I'm in the process of adding more letters to this site. Trust me, there are boxes of letters.

I found this to be really cool of my grandfather to draw for my brother. This letter is going back to my brother, but just wanted to have a record of it.
